Cohilia Festival 2008

COHILIA International Arts Festival is unique in the sense of combining the European spirit of classic music with the fantastic Mediterranean nature of Greece, where European civilization was born.

CONCERT THEATRE, where the festival takes place every year, is an open - air, ancient - style, amphitheatre of 700 seats, with a stage of 300 sm, located in a 200 - years old olive grove.

The activities of the festival cover a variety of artistic events: concerts of famous symphonic and chamber orchestras, renowned soloists, choirs, traditional and folclore music and dancing ensembles, modern music and jazz concerts, theatre, plastic arts workshops and exhibitions, literature symphosiums, seminars and masterclasses.

The activities of “Cohilia 2008” were crowned by 2 major Scientific – Artistic collaborations :

October 10th – 4th day of activities of
The 1st Russian-Greek Forum for the 180 years of diplomatic relations
“Russian-Greek political, religious, and cultural relations in the world history”
On the occasion of the 180 years of diplomatic relations between
Russia and Greece

Within the frame of the Forum, the Pianist Giorgos Konstantinou, Acting as the General Manager of “Concert Theatre-Cohilia Festival Association”, in collaboration with the Municipality of Elimnion, The Folklore Museum, and the tour oprators M&M Elimnioin Tours organized the activities of the Forum on the 10th of October at Limni, Evia island, as follows:

- Pilgrimage at the church of St.John the Russian (Aghios Ioannis the Russian),
- Visit to the Folklore Museum of Limni,, photograph exhibition “Historical Relations of the Nautical Commerce between Russia and Greece,
- Concert at “Concert Theatre”

In the frame of the Forum, a World Scientific Symposium took place.
The topics of the Forum were related to the history of political, economical, Cultural, and religious relations between Russia and Greece during the last 1000 years. The target of both the Forum and the Symposium was the dialogue between the 2 countries, through governmental factors, public organizations, as well as, business factors.

250 representatives participated in both the Forum and the Symposium.

The lecturers of the Symposium were celebrities of science of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professors of Russian and Greek Universities, high rank members of the Russian and the Greek Parliaments, representatives of the Russian Ministries of Economic Development and Foreign Affairs, representatives of the Greek Ministries of Foreign Affairs, and National Education and Religion, Representatives of both Greek and Russian Churches, Managing Directors of big Russian and Greek Corporations and big Banking Institutions.
